We believe the universe was created by God’s command,
is sustained by His power, and is guided by His sovereign control over all
things. As a result of man’s sin, the
world has experienced significant damage and thus contributes to man’s
suffering on earth.
In the beginning God created the heavens
and the earth. – Genesis 1:1
In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. –
John 1:1
The king's
heart is in the hand of the Lord; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he
pleases. – Proverbs 21:1
I form the
light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord,
do all these things. – Isaiah 45:7
In the past God spoke
to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but
in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of
all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's
glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his
powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the
right hand of the Majesty in heaven. – Hebrews 1:1-3
To Adam he said,
"Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I
commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,' "Cursed is the ground because of
you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will
produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.
– Genesis 3:17,18
For the creation was
subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who
subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its
bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.
